Little Chefs

Last night I had an epiphany! My girls love to help. They especially love Pancake breakfast.  Every once in a while Breakfast for Dinner. They are two of the best Egg crackers in all of Central Florida!

I am always trying to think of ways of organizing to allow me to teach them things I feel they need to learn. As their main source of any cleaning, learning and cooking I feel it only right that I teach them how to cook!

I am the youngest brother of two. Cooking is something I remember enjoying helping my mother with that my brother was not always involved in.  I spent a good deal of time asking to help my mother mix, clean, pour, stir, and turn on things. It was awesome! Ofcourse the best part being tasting the good things your making in almost (rare eggs, not so good) every stage!

I know my eldest being still only kindergarten age. She is on the verge of reading. I really want to take this opportunity to teach fractions (division). Of course this is normally 4 grade math, but you know its the principal that can greatly help if she can grasp it. We have practiced with flash cards on drives in the car (long drive to my house, 45-60 mins) and is pretty proficient at them. Now that said it only took knowing numbers and being consistent in using them in the car. No video games probably helped.

IDEA:
I want to make a cookbook with them! At least a make shift one of things we make and want to make. We can color it, scrapbook it or something of the sort. This will allow us to build a repertoire of things they know how to make as well as they might just like to eat. They are pretty pick because of the lack of cooking variety on their mom's side. I know there are so many great things to eat and I would love to have them have a chance to experience them!

Hello World!

Hi!

I'm Scott. A single dad of 3 years to wonderful sparks of life I call my two daughters (ages 6 and 2.5 yr.). We live in the happiest place on earth... and it's not Disney World. It is home, because home is where my kids (my family) are/is  half the time.

My writing is an expression of:
Wonderful,
Challenging times,
Sometimes wonderfully challenging times.

...of our journey together.

I hope you enjoy and be encouraged to "Choose to be the best parent you can, so we can have the best future we've ever had".

I love you Sissy

Well taking my youngest to her nap today I walked up stairs with her in my arms. I entered her purple curtained room with pink castle princess sheets. I pulled back the covers to see a crayon colored picture neatly hidden beneath the covers.

I was apparent that Sissy had placed a gift to her little sister on her bed to be found when she went to bed.

She wrote on it the best any 6 year old could with crayon "I love you".

Of all things good in my day that was the highlight to know that no matter how much they might fight over some Barbie or random object. They care deeply about each other.

I could not pay someone to tell them how to be who they are any better.

Superbowl and Starving Children

Super bowl Sunday! A time many people are looking forward to and tomorrow was be the talk of the town in who won, what happened with someone's wardrobe, and only if...

The girls and I went to church today where they learned about 5 loaves and 2 fish ...
For anyone that does not know the story is about provision and God meeting the needs of his people. In fact he provided for more than just their needs.

Event:
Thinking about this I think back on what my 6 year old told be on Friday evening as I was picking her and her sister up. It's a 45 minute drive to get them. She said dad I'm starving... my ear perked up. Not the kidding over exaggeration but literally she sounded serious... I immediately asked what have you had today... She told me, "I did not get to school early enough to eat breakfast and lunch was only 3 chicken nuggets and I bought a $.50 bag of chips." It was 7 PM. What she told me was about 250 calories for the entire day. I gave her a Cliff Bar in the car and we stopped at the nearest grocery store we could and got them food.

In the back of my mind my heart is crushed that anyone could let my, their, ANY kids go without food when we have so much.

"Strength to the weak and Power to the powerless"
Action: First thing I did was pray and cry. Why is this the system? But I am reminded what man has meant for evil .... God will use for good. I can't see how yet but I have started an action.
My six year old will be given a meal calendar.

It also got me thinking about so many that went to school (yes in America) with little to nothing to eat today. Kids that don't know Doritos are not going to allow you to grow-up healthy and strong like their heroes. Those same Doritos that are in THIS football game today and are going to be praised by these kids dads.

Take Away: Nothing wrong with snacks... but just to reflect as you watch your football game maybe consider telling your kids what GOOD FOOD is and praise the one who prepares it, as well as, and the one that provides it. Be thankful.
